  • Hendersonville Show and Symposium
         (Hosted by HCGMS, non-SEFM affiliated)
    When:
    Saturday, September 4, 2004
         Hendersonville Micromount Symposium
    Friday, September 3, 2004 - Monday, Sept. 6
         Hendersonville Gem and Mineral Show
    Details:
    The Micromounters Symposium in Hendersonville, NC is Saturday, Sept. 4th in the Salvation Army Building on 4th and Grove streets. Hours are from 9 to 4 or whenever. A light lunch will be available at a reasonable cost to participants. The HCGMS annual Gem & Mineral show at the Whitmire building on Lilly Pond Road runs Sept. 3rd through 6th. Mineral specimens, rough material, jewelry, craft supplies, displays and a snack bar will be available. The Mineral and Lapidary Museum is also open, located on 4th and Main. Web site: http://www.mineralmuseum.org/ The Hendersonville Apple Festival also runs that weekend from Friday through Monday on Main Street. The street is blocked off and there are many vendors, food (apple treats) and events. A shuttle will run from 4th and Main to the Gem & Mineral show.   • Field Trip to Arkansas Syenite Quarries

         Granite Mountain Quarries, Little Rock, AR
    Friday, October 1, 2004
         Big Rock Quarry (3M), Little Rock, AR
    Saturday, October 2, 2004
         Jones Mill (Hwy 51) Quarry, Magnet Cove, AR
    Details:
    Details will be forwarded as soon as trip arrangements are finalized. These quarries have produced syenite pegmatites with rare mineral species, gas cavities with large zeolites, and xenoliths with unusual minerals. Over 80 mineral species have been identified from syenites in this area. Trip will be open to members of the SEFM only.

  • Field Trip in Conjunction with Fall Symposium
         (SEFM Field Trip)
         (Open to Public)
    When:
    Sunday, November 14, 2004 (8:00 AM - Exhaustion)
    Details:
    Details to be announced.
    The weather can be highly variable at this time of year.  As always, layers of clothing are recommended.  Be prepared to do some walking at Indian Mountain.  Bring a sack lunch, water, warm cloths, and raingear in addition to you collecting equipment.  Blaze orange might be advisable as it is hunting season.
